OmniVision Demonstrates First Low-Cost, Digital Wireless Security Solution Using Video Over 805.15.4/Zigbee Networks

LAS VEGAS, March 28 /- OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:OVTI), a leading independent supplier of CMOS CameraChip(TM) image sensors for high-volume applications, announced today at the International Security Conference (ISC) West in Las Vegas, Nevada, that it is demonstrating a reference design that provides a digital security camera solution for MPEG 4 video systems using the company's OV7720 CameraChip(TM) sensor. The reference design, called Home SecuCam, is the first of its kind to use video over the 805.15.4/Zigbee wireless network, a capability that OmniVision believes offers its customers a distinct competitive advantage.

Home SecuCam serves as a blueprint for integrated security monitoring via a variety of protocols, including wireless and mobile networks, enabling cost- effective audio/video home security that is easily adaptable by customers to meet their individual requirements. OmniVision's solution requires no expert knowledge for installation and does not require an IP router. To meet the requirements of the security market, Home SecuCam operates at very low power, enabling it to remain in standby mode for months on battery power. With up to 16 channels, it can support multiple cameras to cover multiple areas and can be daisy chained to have longer distance coverage over a greater area.

The prototype of the Home SecuCam reference design being demonstrated at ISC West (OmniVision booth # 7087) uses chipset solutions that provide MPEG4 compression and RF 2.4G wireless networking. The Home SecuCam solution is also suitable for interfacing to a modem, Ethernet connection or a GSM/3G mobile network for remote monitoring.
