New Reamer Configuration Delivers Fast, Versatile Precision
A new engineered tooling solution from Valenite LLC has been introduced-the MODCO® BHR Reamer series. These new tools provide high-precision hole sizing with excellent surface finishes, faster feed rates for shorter cycle times, and a choice of carbide grades, sizes and shanks styles for a variety of application requirements, materials, machine tools and production volumes. The BHR-meaning Brazed Head Reamer-units feature standardized construction consisting of a shank and interchangeable, replaceable cutting head module, though each is custom configured to specific needs of the job. BHR Reamers are engineered for two distinct applications-for both blind hole or through hole, and with five different shank sizes that accommodate the full working diameter range of the series, which encompasses head sizes for finishing holes from 9,75 to 32,50 mm.
The MODCO BHR Reamer cutting heads are available with one of two Valenite ValPro(TM) carbide grades that deliver optimum performance in reaming applications: The tough, uncoated VP-1R20 micrograin carbide with up sharp cutting edge is ideal for aluminum and non-ferrous work along with titanium alloys; and the PVD TiN coated VP-5R15 micrograin grade for steel and stainless steels, iron and all nickel/cobalt/iron based super alloys. When these grades and cutting edge geometries are applied with an appropriate shank that features through-coolant capabilities, surface finishes of Ra 0,3 to 0,8 are achievable.
The exclusive clamping system of the BHR allows for fast and easy changeout of tool heads utilizing a simple set screw-type actuation of a drawback finger. Importantly, the head is accurately clamped to allow the finish reaming of the hole to a H7 quality classification without adjustments. The quick change multiple tip reaming heads permit faster feed rates that will reduce machining times, without sacrificing size, hole geometry or surface quality results.
While shank-lengths are available in a variety of sizes, lengths that range from 95 to 165 mm, with diameters from 12 to 25 mm are available for quick delivery. Other length and diameter sizes are available to fit applications-specific needs.
