EAO Series 56 Is the First Pushbutton to Meet New TSI-PRM Standards

EAO Series 56 is the First Pushbutton to Meet New TSI-PRM Standards

Milford, CT - EAO Switch Corporation of Milford, CT USA, premier global supplier
of Human Machine Interface (HMI) Components and Systems, announces a new rail emergency switch that meets European Technical Specifications of Interoperability for Persons with Reduced Mobility (TSI-PRM) standards, the first such design for the industry. EAO has now partnered with French Railways and SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer français - French National Railway) to develop a version of their acclaimed Series 56 door opener specific to the stringent requirements of these associations.

Based on EAO's industry-leading Series 56 passenger use pushbutton, this new version of EAO's Series 56 has been specially designed for ease of use by disabled passengers, particularly the visually impaired. The new distinctive design contains a large pushbutton within a bright yellow triangular bezel. The triangular, yellow shape was chosen by SNCF for its maximum visibility in all light levels, and for its recognized association with warnings and hazards. The bezel also features "SOS" printed in both ink and Braille text. The letters are 15mm high and the Braille more than 0.5mm high in accordance with TSI-PRM for tactile signs and controls.

TSI-PRM standards replaced the RVAR (Rail Vehicles Accessibility Regulations) in 2008. Customers who already use the Series 56 switch will be able to retrofit existing switch units by purchasing the triangular bezel in order to bring their tactile controls up to TSI-PRM standards.

EAO is International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) certified.
