New SKF reinforced all-rubber HSS radial shaft seals introduce improved solutions for reliable protection against contaminants and extended service life for large-size bearings in wind turbine drive trains. These high-performance seals are designed for easy installation or uptower replacement during planned maintenance procedures. For new designs their minimal space requirements allow for smaller and lighter bearing housings, potentially reducing turbine weight.
The HSS seals integrate SKF Duratemp® hydrogenated nitrile rubber, which provides high static sealing performance with an ability to accommodate imperfections in the mating housing surface. A standard grade is used for the sealing lip, while the seal body contacting the housing bore is made from a harder grade for improved stability during installation and in operation.
These seals feature a well-proven, spring-loaded sealing lip design with a defined radial load for reliable sealing performance. Available in solid and split versions, the seals can be equipped with an optional SKF Springcover specially engineered to keep the spring in correct position.
The seals are strategically manufactured slightly oversized relative to the housing bore diameter and depth and clamped in the housing bore by a cover plate to further enhance stability and performance. A variety of standard sizes can be specified and custom versions can readily be developed in any quantity and virtually without upper limits both for metric and inch sizes.
