UPM Raflatac Launches New Dogbone Freeze Product Suitable for Frozen Environment

(UPM Raflatac, Tampere, August 11, 2009, at 13:30) UPM Raflatac is pleased to introduce new Dogbone Freeze product with superior performance in frozen environment supply chain applications. It is specially designed for applications where down to -40C/F degree operating temperature is required.

METRO Group, one of the largest and most international retailing companies, has been using the Dogbone Freeze product with excellent results in its RFID pilot project at a distribution center for frozen foods in Hamm, Germany. METRO Group uses UPM Raflatac's Dogbone Freeze tags to automate the collection of data for receiving and storage of goods, as well as tracking its inventory. METRO Group places RFID tags on pallets and on the locations where the pallets are stored, interrogators are installed on forklifts and at the gates of the distribution center.

Dogbone Freeze offers up to 240-bit EPC memory, cost efficient extra thin, non sandwich type structure and printable, white, synthetic surface.

Product can be directly applied on items, cases and pallets. The new product is currently available.

"Dogbone Freeze is specially designed for frozen FMCG supply chain. Frozen fish, meat, vegetables and ice-cream supply chain has to be well-controlled from source to the retailer. The coldchain integrity needs to be guaranteed and monitored since that is the only way to secure the quality of the goods sold", says Mr Mikko Nikkanen Business Development Director, UPM Raflatac, RFID.

"RFID is the only Auto ID technology that can provide robustness and user-friendlyness in this tough working environment. Unlike barcodes RFID does not need to create visual contact with label through frosted surface."
