Sequans Introduces Mobile WiMAX RF Chip

Leader in WiMAX chips now provides both baseband and RF silicon

CUPERTINO, Calif. and PARIS - December 12, 2007 - Sequans Communications, leading WiMAX chipmaker, is launching its newest chip, the SQN1140 RFIC (radio frequency integrated circuit) for Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 end user devices. The chip is a high performance, low power RF chip designed to integrate directly with Sequans' SQN1130 Mobile WiMAX baseband chip for a total Mobile WiMAX 802.16e-2005 solution.

The SQN1140 is a dual channel MIMO WiMAX RF chip based on CMOS process technology. It delivers dual transmit and dual receive MIMO operation and is designed to support the advanced MIMO technology, mimoMAX(TM), of Sequans' award winning SQN1130 baseband chip. Patent-pending mimoMAX enables the SQN1130 to deliver maximum likelihood MIMO performance with low power consumption. The combined Sequans SQN1140 RF plus SQN1130 baseband is the industry's highest performing, lowest power consuming Mobile WiMAX solution available today.

"We are pleased to make this high performance Mobile WiMAX RF chip available to our customers," said Ashok Dhuna, Sequans' VP of RF engineering. "Its availability completes our Mobile WiMAX product offering and complements the integrated solutions we have already developed with our RF partners. We are uniquely able to provide our customers a complete range of RF options with our partners such as Maxim and PMC-Sierra, enabling them to address virtually any frequency band in any market around the world."

The SQN1140 consumes only 290 mW of power in receive mode, and 195 mW in transmit mode (single transmit). Other unique features of the SQN1140 include integrated low noise amplifiers (LNAs) and support for several standby modes of operation to further minimize power consumption.

The SQN1140 is available today to selected Sequans customers and will be generally available in Q1 2008. It is already being integrated, with the SQN1130, into multiple end user devices and SIP modules being developed by Sequans' ODM partners. Sequans itself is developing a SIP combining the SQN1130 and SQN1140 and an ExpressCard reference design.

The SQN1140 is the fourth Mobile WiMAX chip Sequans has delivered, following a Mobile WiMAX Wave 1 chip in 2006 and two baseband Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 chips in 2007 for base station and mobile stations. All chips are in volume production.
