January 6, 2009 - When integrated into pre-sterilized single-use systems, HFC39 Series uses automatic shutoff valves to prevent external organisms from entering through connector and into flow path during disconnection. Plastic components are made from polysulfone, and seals are platinum-cured silicone, which withstands autoclave, EtO, Gamma, or E-beam sterilization. Available with hose barbs for ¼, 3/8, and ½ in. tubing, couplings operate from vacuum to 125 psi and -40 to 280°F.

Aseptic Disconnect Capability with Colder's HFC39 Series Quick Disconnect Couplings

St. Paul, MN - November 24, 2008 - Biopharmaceutical process engineers seeking a secure and cost-effective aseptic disconnect from equipment now have a reliable, easy-to-use solution: HFC39 Series couplings from Colder Products Company. Extensively tested for biocompatibility and performance, the HFC39 Series couplings are designed to prevent external organisms from entering through the connector and into the flow path during disconnection.

When integrated into pre-sterilized single-use systems, the HFC39's automatic shutoff valves allow an aseptic disconnection by closing off the flow path prior to fully disconnecting. For the first time operators can complete an aseptic break between silicone tubing assemblies. The valve design also eliminates the need for pinch clamps or tubing welders.

"Biopharmaceutical manufacturers have been using HFC39 connections for years, proving the product's reliability," said John Boehm, business unit manager, bioprocessing, Colder Products Company. "Now we have validated its aseptic disconnect capability, giving bioprocessors the confidence to use the HFC39 in their most critical applications."

The Container Closure Integrity Test using the Microbial ingress testing was performed at Northview Laboratories. The Barrier Challenge and Biocompatibility tests on the materials of construction were performed by NAMSA Laboratories. A full Validation Report Package is available at http://www.colder.com/.

The plastic components of the HFC39 couplings are made from polysulfone and the seals are made from platinum-cured silicone which both meets U.S.P. Class VI standards and will withstand autoclave, EtO, Gamma, or E-Beam sterilization methods. The couplings function reliably with working pressure from vacuum to 125 psi (8.6 bar), and in temperatures from -40°F to 280°F (-40°C to 138°C). The HFC39 couplings have a 3/8" (9.5 mm) diameter flow path and are available with hose barbs for 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" (6.4mm, 9.5mm & 12.7mm) tubing.
