2016 Size Hermetically Sealed 20ppm Quartz Crystal Resonator from Murata Delivers Advanced Wireless Functionality

XRCGD Series Offers Cost Savings While Enabling Wearable Electronic Devices

Smyrna, GA, – Murata Americas today launched its XRCGD series, a quartz crystal resonator line that meets the strictest frequency tolerance requirements for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth®, and Radio frequency/baseband applications.  The solution provides design engineers with a hermetically sealed package that is compatible with industry standard 2016 package size  (measuring 2.0 x 1.6 x 0.45 mm), highly reliable, and offers a superior cost advantage over other similar sized hermetically sealed packaging used today. The new series achieves a total tolerance of +/-20ppm, nominal frequencies ranging from 24MHz to 48MHz, and an operating temperature of -30C to +85C.

The crystal unit was developed for wearable and handheld electronic devices using wireless communication functions. These devices can benefit from the size offered by a 2016 package, but often have to make do with larger and less expensive 3225 size crystal products.   Murata’s XRCGD series builds off the company’s proven Hybrid Crystal Resonator (HCR) line-up to deliver a hermetically sealed solution that allows such electronic devices to now achieve the size benefits of a 2016 package without the cost penalty.

“The 2016 XRCGD series is a natural progression from Murata’s popular HCR crystal product line. With the addition of hermetic sealing to Murata’s proven metal cap on ceramic substrate package technology, we are now able to offer cost effective and tight tolerance 2016 crystal products. Such a combination is something not seen from an existing ceramic cavity with metal lid packages used in the industry today,” said Peter Tiller, General Manager Device Product, Murata Americas.

The XRCGD series is available for samples, with mass production starting in Q2 of 2014.  For more information, please contact Murata sales through www.murata-americas.com.
