Komatsu Introduces Dash-7 Model HD605 Truck for Quarry and Heavy Construction Markets

• Higher carrying capacity

• Spacious new cab incorporates automotive-style features

• Fully-hydraulic braking system

VERNON HILLS, Ill. - August 15, 2002 - Designed to increase production in quarries and on large construction sites Komatsu America Corporation (KAC) introduces its 69-ton HD605-7 dump truck. Numerous design enhancements promote optimum productivity, maneuverability, durability, safety and operator comfort. The new truck replaces the very successful HD605-5 in KAC's truck fleet.

The quarry version of Komatsu new 61-ton HD465-7, the HD605-7 is modified to carry more weight with a 17-percent larger body, yet retain the speed and maneuverability of the smaller truck.

The 242,290-lb. HD605-7 features a durable, high-performance drive train; all electronic-controlled, K-ATOMiCS seven-speed planetary transmission; advanced electronics; and a hydraulic system designed for power and control.

Unsurpassed Productivity

The HD605-7 is powered by a 715-hp, 6-cylinder Komatsu SAA6D170E-3 TIER II emissionized engine. The seven-speed fully automatic K-ATOMiCS transmission improves productivity by using an advanced electronic control system to eliminate shift shock and torque cut-off to improve operator and engine efficiency. The system automatically selects the optimum gear according to vehicle speed, engine rpm and the shift position chosen.

At 43.5-mph, the HD605-7 boasts the fastest travel speed in its class. Because the truck offers a superior power-to-weight ratio it also climbs a grade faster as well. The engine, torque converter, transmission, rear end, final drives, retarder/hydraulic brakes are all Komatsu designed, built, serviced and backed.

Operator Comfort Results in Increased Productivity

The HD605-7s two-door, walk-through cab includes a large, SUV-style dash equipped with an electronically-controlled heater, air conditioner and an AM/FM stereo. Also incorporated into the new cab is tinted glass, a tiltable steering wheel, adjustable seats with headrests, intermittent wipers and turn signals.

The cab is mounted on rubber, viscous damping mounts to reduce vibration and noise and a hydropneumatic suspension allows for a smoother ride, which reduces fatigue and helps keep the operator productive. Operators also benefit from light control efforts that allow them to maneuver the vehicle easily, for example, the electronically-controlled automatic transmission allows the operator to control direction and gear shifts while keeping his hand on the steering wheel.

Safety Features

Operator safety is enhanced with driver and passenger seat belts and an automatic back-up steering system. An electronic display monitoring system oversees the truck's operation, fluid levels and pressure levels, providing additional operational safety and reliability.

The HD605-7 features a continuously oil-cooled multiple disc braking system for superior stopping power - fully sealed for protection against contaminants, making it more reliable, responsive and a long service life.

A continuously oil-cooled multiple disc retarder has the largest capacity in its class and allows the HD605-7 to decelerate without frequent use of the brakes, permitting safe travel at higher speeds - even down long, steep slopes.

The truck also includes standard ROPS and FOPS for operator safety. A rock deflector also extends from the bed of the truck overhanging the cab for additional operator protection.
