L Gore & Associates, Inc., the makers of GORE-TEX® sealant products, is a high performance composite material designed and engineered specifically for use as a compression packing. Because of its high durability and long life, it sports the slogan "Pack it and Forget it!". GFO® fiber packing applications include sealing shafts on high speed pumps, mixers, agitators, or any other equipment with rotating or reciprocating shafts.
GFO® fiber packing never gets hard or brittle, and won't score shafts. Moreover, its excellent lubricity and high thermal conductivity keep it cool running even after extended periods of continuous operation at shaft speeds to 4,300 fpm (21.8 m/s). Easy to install and remove, this packing is temperature tolerant from -400°F to +550°F (-250°C to +288°C) and is chemically inert over the entire 0-14 pH range. Users will achieve these rigorous performance levels only on packing that is made from 100% GFO® fiber.
