Corrosion Resistant Pump Bypass Valves

Summary: Plast-O-Matic Valves, Inc. offers a line of Pump Bypass Relief Valves to protect chemical process systems from pump "dead-heading" by automatically diverting flow through a bypass line.

Cedar Grove, New Jersey: Plast-O-Matic Valves, Inc. has introduced a line of thermoplastic Bypass Relief Valves to automatically and safely divert flow in case of an obstruction in the piping system.

Series RV is designed to protect pumps from "deadheading," which occurs when another valve is closed in the system and flow is stopped -- yet the pump continues to run. This valve enables some or all of the flow normally discharged from the pump to be bypassed or piped away to either the suction side of the pump or back to the feed vessel.

The normally-closed bypass valve is installed near the pump using a tee, and preset to a specific pressure. When a downstream valve closes, or other obstruction occurs, pressure builds and causes the bypass valve to open. It then automatically diverts flow through a bypass line to maintain normal pump operation. When the other valve reopens, or the obstruction is cleared, the pressure in the line returns to normal and the bypass valve closes. This automatic valve saves substantial wear and tear on the pump, extending pump life and minimizing downtime.

Pump Bypass Valves are available in pipe sizes from 1/4" - 3" with various body materials including PVC, Polypropylene, Corzan CPVC, Kynar PVDF and PTFE. Flow rates range from 2 to 200 GPM and set pressures from 5 to 150 PSI. The valves can be factory modified for special applications.
