Pulsed Lasers are offered in all fiber design.
Pulsed Lasers are offered in all fiber design.

January 25, 2006 - Polarised, eye safe Picasso Model PF1550PM-30 and 1 micron PF1060-40 are suitable for applications such as homeland security, range gated imaging, LADAR, sensing, and micromachining. PF1550PM-30 produces 4- to 6-ns pulses at repetition rates from 50 kHz-200 kHz, and PF1060-40 generates 3- to 5-ns pulses at repetition rates between 100 kHz and 1 MHz. Weighing less than 16 lb, lasers are suitable for many military and commercial applications.

Aculight Corporation Expands "Picasso" Pulsed Fiber Laser Family

New Polarized and 1-Micron Units To Be Featured At Photonics West Booth #1239,
January 24-26, 2006, in San Jose, California

Bothell, Wash., January 19, 2006 - Aculight Corporation, a leading developer of innovative laser technologies, has expanded its "Picasso" family of pulsed fiber lasers. The new additions include a polarized eye-safe laser, Picasso Model PF1550PM-30, and a 1-micron laser, Picasso Model PF1060-40. These rugged, high-peak-power sources are ideal for applications such as homeland security, range gated imaging, LADAR, sensing and micromachining.

"We've expanded our Picasso PF-1550 line of fiber lasers to meet customer interest for a wider range of wavelengths along with a polarized version," said Andrew Brown, Aculight's director of business development. "Not only do our new products meet these requirements, but they generate high-peak-power pulses at a wide choice of repetition rates from an easy-to-integrate package. And, like our previous versions, their all-fiber design provides customers with a more efficient, robust and compact source than traditional laser technologies."

The new polarized Picasso Model PF1550PM-30 produces 4- to 6-ns pulses at repetition rates from 50 kHz to 200 kHz with 1W average power. It generates maximum pulse energy of 20 µJ at 50 kHz. The unit's 1.54-µm output is diffraction limited. Aculight's 1-micron version, Picasso Model PF1060-40 generates 3- to 5-ns pulses at repetition rates between 100 kHz and 1 MHz. It produces up to 10W of average power at a repetition rate of 1MHz and maximum peak powers of 30 kW. The unit's output is less than 1.4 times the diffraction limit. All Picasso units measure just 3.5" x 11" x 13" and weigh 16 pounds or less.

The new Picasso lasers open many military and commercial applications to fiber laser technology-a long awaited milestone since the lasers' all-fiber design is more reliable, efficient, compact and rugged than traditional laser technologies. Picasso Model PF1550PM-30's eye-safe, polarized output, in particular, makes it key for applications such as polarization-contrast imaging, where polarization can be used in addition to wavelength as a way of discriminating targets in an image.

"Expanding Aculight's proprietary line of Picasso products as well as our recent ISO 9001:2000 registration marks some big strides in our company's development," said Brown. "Customers can now come to us at any stage in their product development or manufacturing and acquire a custom-designed solution for their application-this could be an off-the-shelf product, a technology designed specifically for them, or access to our flexible manufacturing line to produce their own OEM products."
