June 6, 2012 - Pegasus® GC-HRT supports pulsed Electron Impact (EI) ionization source as add-on option. Improving instrument sensitivity by one order of magnitude (from 1,000 fg to 100 fg), option lets scientists performing dioxin analysis meet/exceed requirements in methodology from U.S. EPA. Pegasus GC-HRT also enables acquisition of spectral data across range without sacrificing resolving power or mass accuracy, while ChromaTOF-HRT® software utilizes True Signal Deconvolution®.

Pulsed Electron Impact (EI) Ionization Source Introduced by LECO for Pegasus® GC-HRT

St. Joseph, Mich.-LECO Corporation has introduced a pulsed EI ionization source for the Pegasus GC-HRT. This new add-on option is designed to improve the instrument's sensitivity capabilities by an order of magnitude, from 1 pg (1,000 fg) to 100 fg. Pulsed EI works through the accumulation of ions between transient pulses into the Pegasus GC-HRT's mass analyzer thus increasing the percentage of total ions created that make it into the mass analyzer for detection.

For scientists performing dioxin analysis, this addition to the Pegasus GC-HRT offers significant advantages. Pulsed EI provides the sensitivity necessary to meet or exceed the strict requirements set forth in the methodology from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), particularly for Methods 1613 and 8290. The Pegasus GC-HRT also enables the acquisition of spectral data across a wide mass range without sacrificing high resolving power or high mass accuracy. ChromaTOF-HRT® software utilizes True Signal Deconvolution® for accurate peak identification, seamless data handling, and compatibility with the NIST library.
