November 25, 2002 - Portable Xtremeâ„¢ Mix proportioner only mixes amount of material needed. Digital controls include reporting capabilities to continuously monitor component ratio throughout application process. Automatic shutdown and alarm features indicate when supply source is empty, or when fluid lines are leaking, to prevent operator from spraying off-ratio material. User can switch between multiple ratios from 0:1 to 10:1 with turn of key instead of mechanically reconfiguring system.

New Graco Xtremeâ„¢ Mix Makes Plural Component Ratio Assurance Portable, Easier and More Affordable

Ensures proper mixing and costs 30 percent less than competitive offerings

MINNEAPOLIS - November 5, 2002 - The next evolution in plural component equipment is Graco Inc. (NYSE: GGG) technology that overcomes well-known barriers to employing a ratio-accurate proportioner. The Graco Xtremeâ„¢ Mix proportioner, significantly smaller and lighter than current plural component systems, is priced as much as 30 percent less than comparative options. Protective coatings continue moving toward higher-solids composition and shorter pot lives. Graco Xtreme Mix makes proportioning an accessible alternative to hand-mixing, where guesswork, re-work and material waste increase operating costs and reduce contractor profitability.

"Materials formulation has outpaced the development of proportioner technology that can efficiently and easily handle today's coatings at a reasonable investment," said Brian Zumbolo, Worldwide Product Marketing Manager, Protective Coatings Equipment, Graco. "As a result, hand-mixing plural-components remains the dominant proportioning method. Xtreme Mix sets new standards for proportioner reliability, precision, ease-of-use and return-on-investment."

By only mixing the amount of material you need, the Xtreme Mix can reduce material waste by up to 25 percent.

Portable design moves system closer to project. Unlike cumbersome plural-component equipment that is difficult to maneuver—sometimes needing to be moved by crane—one person can position the Xtreme Mix. System mobility also shortens hose lengths, which, in addition to avoiding pressure drops, means less unused material left in the lines, less solvent for flushing, and reduced hazardous waste disposal costs.

Confident material applications. Digital controls on the Xtreme Mix include reporting capabilities to continuously monitor the component ratio throughout the application process. Automatic shutdown and alarm features indicate when the supply source is empty, or when fluid lines are leaking, to prevent an operator from spraying off-ratio material. By preventing mistakes that occur when improperly proportioned material is sprayed, Xtreme Mix ratio assurance reduces rework costs and gives users the confidence that the job was done right.

Application flexibility. Xtreme Mix enables the user to switch between multiple ratios (0:1 to 10:1) with the turn of a key instead of mechanically reconfiguring the system. Traditional approaches require labor- and time-intensive parts swapping. Users also can easily switch between gravity, siphon or pressure feed options.

Key accessories of the Xtreme Mix system are the Viscon® HP fluid heater and XTRâ„¢ Airless Spray Gun. The high-output Viscon HP heater's 7,250-psi (500 bar, 50 Mpa) pressure rating makes it ideal for most pumps and its heating capacity and temperature control allow it to maintain consistent temperature and fluid viscosity for uniform applications. The compact, ergonomic design of the 7,250-psi XTR spray gun helps users comfortably spray high solids and plural-component coatings on hard-to-reach surfaces.

Graco Inc. supplies technology and expertise for the management of fluids in both industrial and commercial applications. It designs, manufactures and markets systems and equipment to move, measure, control, dispense and spray fluid materials. A recognized leader in its specialties, Minneapolis-based Graco serves customers around the world in the manufacturing, processing, construction and maintenance industries.
