Eaton Corporation Introduces New Line of Programmable MPCV Network Protector Communications Relays

PITTSBURGH, PA. Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation launches its newest line of Cutler-Hammer MPCV Network Protector Communications Relays, allowing users to select closing curves and have access to voltage, current, power, power factor, harmonics and last trip information. The MPCV Relay is a breakthrough in the utility, industrial and commercial marketplaces for Eaton's Cutler-Hammer electrical power distribution and control business.

Users can select from two closing curves, including a modified circular closed curve. The circular curve permits the network protector to close at lower loads while assuring the watt flow is into the network.

The MPCV communicates its information to a Data Concentrator/Translator over a shielded twisted pair communications wire. The information is obtained through a utility's protocol or the Cutler-Hammer PowerNetâ„¢ software program.

"MPCV Relays operate on 216V and 480V systems and can be retrofitted on older Cutler-Hammer or General Electric network protectors," said Jock Moffat, product line manager with Eaton's Cutler-Hammer business.

The MPCV monitors the network protector's internal enclosure, including temperature, alarms of detected anomalies, and water. The waveform storage capability provides breaker information. The MPCV stores and downloads the last trip operation in a waveform mode, which can be viewed on a PC.

Each MPCV Relay is enclosed in a NEMA Type 6 chemically treated, waterproof drawn brass shell to provide optimum mechanical integrity. The removable gasketed base provides easy access for maintenance and repairs.
