Rockwell Automation Announces Certified Systems Professional Program to Certify Competence in Automation Systems

Program helps manufacturers reduce downtime and increase productivity through advanced knowledge of Rockwell Automation products

MILWAUKEE, May 10, 2004 - Rockwell Automation has introduced the Certified Systems Professional (CSP) program, a three-stage certification program for manufacturers using Rockwell Automation products. By equipping engineers with advanced technical knowledge and practical skills in several key automation disciplines, the program helps end users across all sectors of industry boost productivity and reduce downtime. The CSP program recognizes technical proficiency and industry knowledge of automation professionals who have demonstrated exceptional competencies in industrial networks, controls, visualization and motion technologies.

"The Rockwell Automation CSP program is a thorough assessment used to validate individual competence in automation technology and application," said Laurie Moormann, director of customer training, Rockwell Automation. "Certification provides daily value to manufacturers by ensuring that employees have the industry and product knowledge necessary to best avert downtime. It also helps them identify performance liabilities and knowledge gaps that must be addressed."

Individuals considering certification should have skills and experience involving five or more projects that required advanced automation controls and networks, plus specialty experience in visualization, power handling, drives or motion control. To determine certification readiness, a free pre-test is available online at www.rockwellautomation.com/certification.

In order to achieve certification, candidates must first pass a written examination on controls and networks technologies. A score of 80 percent or higher allows candidates to continue to either the visualization examination or motion examination. Candidates passing the second examination progress to a two-day systems-level project designed to test their ability to integrate technologies in either the motion or the visualization discipline. In either case, candidates will be required to follow a functional specification. The project will require programming the necessary logic on legacy technology and converting an existing legacy project to work with new technology.

Candidates who successfully complete the systems project achieve the Rockwell Automation Certified Systems Professional (CSP) status. The certification must be renewed every two years by participating in update testing.

The Rockwell Automation CSP program was developed by Rockwell Automation technical experts and based on guidelines established by the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). Rockwell Automation is currently exploring opportunities to partner with the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA) in the development of a non-vendor-specific certification program as well.
