Thermo Fisher Scientific Instruments Improve Accuracy of Extremely Small Sample Measurement

Orion ROSS® Micro pH electrode and Micro ATC probe accurately measure temperature and pH where sample size is critical

BEVERLY, Mass., (November 27, 2006) - Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today announced the launch of the Thermo Scientific Orion ROSS Micro pH electrode and Micro Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) probe, offering unparalleled accuracy where the measurement of extremely small samples is critical: pharmaceutical, biotech and university environments. Optimized for industries where smaller sample sizes are common, the new products provide scientists, professors, chemists and lab technicians with a technical edge as well as increased accuracy, speed and durability.

The unique design of the ROSS Micro pH electrode offers the performance benefits of a ROSS electrode, which include accuracy, stability, reproducibility and rapid pH response to temperature changes. At less than 3 mm in diameter, the new ROSS Micro pH electrode can also be used with the Orion PerpHecT® meters, enabling users to measure pH while allowing for direct temperature measurement and compensation without a separate ATC probe. Benefits of the ROSS Micro pH electrode include:

Added durability from a Teflon protective sleeve over the glass stem
Increased compatibility with TRIS buffers and samples containing proteins and enzymes
Smaller size for pH measurement in 384 well plates or samples with 4.5 mm depth of immersion

Like the ROSS Micro pH electrode, the compact and durable design of the Thermo Scientific's new ATC probe makes it ideal for the measurement of extremely small samples. As one of the smallest sensors on the market, the ATC probe features a sensing tip of less than 1 mm in diameter, allowing users to measure the temperature of samples as small as 10 micro liters. The ATC probe, which can be used independently or in conjunction with the Thermo Scientific's Orion meters, provides unparalleled temperature response, especially when moving between samples with high temperature differences. Additional benefits of the ATC probe include:

Added durability from epoxy body and stainless steel sensing tip
Smaller size for temperature measurement in 384 well plates or samples with a 3 mm depth of immersion

"At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we're proud to offer products that elevate scientific measurement to the highest levels of durability, accuracy and speed," said Bob Caporiccio, electrode product line manager for Thermo Fisher Scientific. "The introduction of the Orion ROSS Micro pH electrode and ATC probe illustrates our commitment to continued innovation by allowing researchers to measure pH and temperature even in the smallest samples."
