Millar Instruments Launches Complete Pressure-Volume System for Large and Small Animal Models

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 2 / / -- Millar Instruments, Inc. developer and manufacturer of Mikro-Tip(R) pressure transducer catheters and pressure-volume (P-V) systems, today announced the launch of its MPVS Ultra(TM) P-V system for both small and large animal models.

The MPVS Ultra simultaneously and continuously measures high-fidelity left ventricular pressure and volume from the intact beating hearts of animals ranging in size from transgenic mice to domestic livestock. Using the MPVS Ultra, cardiovascular pressure and volume can be plotted against each other in real time, generating the characteristic P-V loops that are an excellent illustration of the cardiac cycle in normal or diseased conditions of the living heart.

"The MPVS Ultra is the first P-V system on market to provide the researcher with a single complete tool for evaluating hemodynamic function across multiple animal models," said Tim Daugherty, Director, Cardiology Products at Millar Instruments. "By working with the research community, Millar has introduced a system which gives researchers the capability to expand their cutting edge work in universities, research hospitals and pharma/biotech companies worldwide."

"Millar's MPVS Ultra is the only P-V system in the world with a Graphical User Interface (GUI). One innovative feature is the dynamic electrode configuration which is easily manipulated through software, eliminating the need for external knobs and providing a new standard in the market for hardware design. Future Millar systems will incorporate and build upon this user-friendly platform. The system also interfaces with the powerful PVAN Ultra software package for multi-segmental post-analysis of data. Millar's commitment to hardware and software development, based on twenty years of conductance measurement experience and thirty-five years of pressure sensor innovation, will further complement our catheter product line and allow us to truly offer 'system solutions' to our customers," said Robert L. Pauly, Vice-President of Engineering/CTO.

Millar Instruments invites physicians and cardiovascular researchers to visit Booth 2746 & Booth 864 at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions conference being held in Orlando, Florida, November 4-6, 2007. There will be a demonstration of the MPVS Ultra pressure-volume system as well as Millar's comprehensive offerings of Mikro-Tip pressure transducer catheters.

About Millar Instruments

Millar Instruments, Inc., designs, manufactures and markets Mikro-Tip(R) catheter pressure transducers for use by medical researchers and clinicians. This high-precision sensor technology allows pressure measurements to be taken at the source, without time delay or motion artifacts. Millar also markets pressure-volume (P-V) systems, capable of simultaneously measuring high fidelity left ventricular pressure and volume within the intact beating hearts of animals ranging in size from transgenic mice to domestic livestock. An important part of Millar's success has come from working with medical researchers and clinicians around the world. Millar Instruments is committed to being an integral part of this on-going research by developing products and systems that further promote medical advancements and discoveries. http://www.millarinstruments.com/
