NPX Pressure Sensor Now Has SPI Interface for Easy Compatibility

10 February 2009

New Sensors Eliminates Need for Custom Development Tools

GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies has introduced the NPX-SPI digitally compensated pressure sensor, which is supplied ready-to-fit with no need for any custom software development tools. This provides OEMs with a low power, 3 volt DC sensor, featuring a serial interface for ease of compatibility. Typical applications will be as pressure switches and controllers in a wide range of industries, as well as specific application on OEM equipment in process control, altimeters and barometers, pneumatic control, cable leak detection and any consumer appliance applications.

"This is the latest product to be launched using our established NPX platform, offering accurate pressure measurement under harsh conditions," said Dave Hutcherson, Product Manager at GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies. " The introduction of an SPI interface now gives compatibility with off-the shelf hardware and software so customers can benefit from reduced development times in addition to ease of manufacture."

The new sensor offers an accurate 8-bit output that is scaled to the input pressure. It can also provide four additional data bytes, including temperature, battery voltage and parity error. The silicon sensor, which offers solid-state reliability, is available in three versions offering maximum pressure capabilities of 450, 700 and 1400 kPa.
