August 27, 2002 - The X5 option for V Series Press Brakes allows for ±2.95 in. programmable movement of right back gauge finger stop. It enables operator to program and form tapered flanges with up to 2.95 in. of variation. User can choose between 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, or 6-axis back gauge. Brakes feature automatically controlled bending, press force of 56 to 357 tons, and bending lengths from 50 to 160 in. Applications include thick-sheet and stainless-steel processing, as well as coining and folding.

New Technology Introduced for V Series Press Brakes

X5 Option Expands Range of Bending Functions

FARMINGTON, Conn., June 3, 2002 - At IMTS 2002, TRUMPF will
introduce a new X5 back gauge option for its V Series press brakes. This X5 option allows for ± 2.95 inches programmable movement of the right back gauge finger stop.

The X5 option will expand the back gauge configurations currently
offered by TRUMPF. Now a customer can choose between a 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-axis back gauge on the V Series. The X5 option will also enable the operator to program and form tapered flanges with up to 2.95 inches of variation.

"Fabricators who form parts with tapered flanges less than 2.95 inches can equip a 2- or 4- axis back gauge with the X5 option without investing in a fully-independent 6 axis back gauge," says Lynn Moore, TRUMPF press brake product manager.

The high-performance TRUMPF V Series press brakes also offer the
following advantages:

• ACB® (Automatically Controlled Bending)

• Press force of 56 - 357 tons

• Bending lengths from 50 inches to 160 inches

• Quick-change tooling system

• Extremely large bending space

• Intelligent 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-axis back gauges

• Laser-hardened Laserdur® tools for safety and precision

Economical short-run production of precision-fit components with tight radii and small flanges are the hallmark of TRUMPF's TrumaBend V Series press brakes.

Applications for the V Series include thick-sheet and stainless-steel processing, as well as coining and folding. These production tasks can typically be found in precision chassis, food industry, door-frame andswitchgear manufacture, and agricultural industry.

ToPs 600 software provides full support for all TRUMPF press brake technology from the six-axis back gauge to the ACB® (Automatically Controlled Bending) angle sensor. Programming continuity between machines facilitates a shorter learning curve for operators and results in less downtime in production.

A special highlight of V Series machines, ACB technology eliminates the costly trial-and-error setup time often faced by press brake operators. Developed and patented by TRUMPF, ACB ensures the right bend is made the first time and every time thereafter.

ACB relies on sensor disks integrated into the tooling to measure
material spring-back. Rather than make a single approach during the bend, the machine makes two. On the first approach, the punch is brought into position to make the bend as specified during programming. The punch then retracts slightly, and sensors
incorporated into the tooling measure the spring-back. The punch is then brought back into position a second time to finalize the bend.

Once this process has been performed, ACB stores the data and the
machine only has to perform a single approach on all subsequent bends.

"TRUMPF is proud to offer a variety of efficient press brake
technologies to meet our customer's bending needs," says Moore.

TRUMPF is one of the world's largest producers of fabricating machinery and a world market leader in lasers used for industrial production technology. Additional company information is available at: www.us.trumpf.com
