June 4, 2010 - Comprised of 6 high-side power switches, AP21x2A series offer complete port protection for self-powered and bus-powered USB as well as other hot swap applications. Dual-channel switches, available with 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 A max load ratings, tolerate heavy capacitive loads and short circuits. Also available with both polarities of enable input, products provide tight tolerance current limiting at ratings of 0.8, 1.4, or 2.0 A. Transient response of 2 µs prevents spurious shutdown or restart.

Diodes Incorporated Announces Power Switches that Provide Complete USB Port Protection

Dallas, Texas - Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD), a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality application specific standard products within the broad discrete and analog semiconductor markets, today announced the release of a family of 6 high-side power switches offering complete port protection for a wide range of self-powered and bus-powered USB and other hot swap applications. Designed to tolerate heavy capacitive loads and short circuits, the AP21x2A dual channel devices are available with maximum load current ratings of 0.5A, 1.0A and 1.5A, and both polarities of enable input.

To improve system robustness, the power switches deliver a fast transient response of 2µs to prevent spurious shutdown or restart. They provide tight tolerance current limiting at ratings of 0.8A, 1.4A or 2.0A, over-temperature and short-circuit protection as well as controlled risetime and under-voltage lockout functionality.

The AP21x2A products integrate an automatic output discharge function to provide controlled discharge of disabled output capacitor voltage, and offer improvement in on-resistance over existing dual channel devices. A 7ms deglitch time on the power switch's fault report flag prevents any false over-current reporting and does not require the addition of any external components. The package options with industry standard pin-outs are: SO8, MSOP-8, MSOP-8-EP and DFN3030E-8.

The devices are UL Recognized and IEC 60950-1 CB Scheme Certified to ensure public safety and product quality. Their ambient operating temperature range is -40 to 85oC. Further information is available on the Company's website at www.diodes.com.
