July 21, 2008 - Available in 4 versions, 150 W Series P140R provides 5, 12-15, 24, and 48 Vdc output. Units are designed for hot-swap and employ smart load-share technique, which automatically pools all parallel power supplies and splits load current so that all power supplies are kept on same temperature level. In addition to multi-voltage input ranging from 85-264 Vac, active PFC, and synchronized rectifier, units are protected against over-voltage, overload, and excess temperature.

Smart Power Supplies from MGV

With its P140R series, MGV Stromversorgungen GmbH presents a newly-designed range of smart and compact 150 W power supplies, available in four versions (with 5 V , 12...15 V , 24 V and 48 V DC output). Designed for hot-swap (n+1 redundancy), the new power supplies employ a smart load-share technique developed by MGV. This thermal load-share automatically pools all paralleled power supplies and splits the load current in such a way that all power supplies are roughly kept on the same temperature level. Thus, thermal overload of a single power supply in a system is prevented reliably.

To manage the internal functions of these new power supplies, MGV uses microcontrollers. By extending their firmware, MGV is able to implement customer-specific requirements like battery management quickly and at reasonable cost.
In addition to their multi-voltage input, ranging from 85 to 264 V AC, active PFC (power factor correction) and synchronised rectifier, the members of the new P140R series are equipped with clever thought-through protective measures against over-voltage, overload and excess temperature. The typical H15-type connector (EN 60603) provides full compatibility with the industry standard. The permissible operating temperature ranges from -25 to +70°C, opening up wide fields of application for this robust series of power supplies.

All members of the P140R series from MGV use an euroboard and therefore integrate into 19 inch systems (3 HE) easily. Thanks to their high power density, the compact power supplies only consume 8 TE (some 40 mm).

Company profile

"Power electronics with passion" is the motto of MGV Stromversorgungen GmbH. Founded in 1981, today's MGV is one of the leading experts for switchmode power supplies in the range from 50 to 5,000 W. The company's turnover almost equally results from standard power supplies and from application-specific solutions for the automation industry, machine and plant engineering, medical technology and renewable energy.
At its headquarters in Munich (Germany), MGV uses state of the art machinery, including its own SMD pick and place line. About 75 highly qualified employees with their keen sense of what is technically and economically feasible warrant for excellence in power supply systems.
