IRC Power Resistors Deliver 20W to 600W with Low Inductance for High Frequency, High Speed Pulse Applications

Transistor-packaged film resistors provide high power ratings, low thermal resistance...

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Providing power electronics design engineers with a range of high-power resistive devices capable of delivering stable resistance values in thermally-efficient packages, TT electronics IRC's MHP Series power resistors feature power ratings from 20W to 600W in popular industry standard TO-220, TO-247 and SOT-227 transistor-style packages. The MHP Series resistors provide superior thermal performance, enabling them to be specified for high-wattage power electronics circuits that experience elevated temperatures during operation. All the devices are rated for operation from -55°C to +155°C.

"The resistors are constructed with a high-stability film element mounted directly to the internal metal flange of the TO-style package, isolated by an alumina ceramic insulating layer," said Tom Morris, application engineering manager for TT electronics IRC. "This gives the MHP Series resistors extremely low thermal resistance, allowing excess heat to flow out of the device through the metal flange to a heatsink."

The MHP Series resistors are ideal for high voltage power supply circuits, motor control and drive circuits, automotive electronics, industrial power equipment and UPS systems. Their non-inductive design also enables them to be used in high frequency snubber and pulse-handling circuits, industrial RF power sources and linear amplifiers, or as termination resistors for RF circuits.

The MHP Series power resistors are available in the following packages/ratings:

o MHP TO-220 Series - 20W, 35W & 50W power ratings, voltage rating to 500V, and a resistance range from 0.01Ω to 51KΩ. Tolerances are to ±1% and TCRs are to +50ppm/°C. Thermal resistance ratings are 5.9°C/W (20W), 3.3°C/W (35W), and 2.3°C/W (50W), and inductance values are <50nH. The MHP TO-220 Series resistors are approved to DSCC drawings 07017 and 07018.

o MHP TO-247 Series - 100W & 140W power ratings, voltage rating to 700V, and a resistance range from 0.01Ω to 51KΩ. Tolerances are to ±1% and TCRs are to +50ppm/°C. Thermal resistance ratings are 1.3°C/W (100W) and 0.9°C/W (140W), and inductance values are <50nH. The MHP TO-247 Series resistors are approved to DSCC drawing 07019.

o MHP SOT-227 Series - 150W, 200W, 250W, 300W, 550W & 600W power ratings, 1000V voltage ratings, and a resistance range from 0.1Ω to 1KΩ. Tolerances are to ±1% and TCRs are to +100ppm/°C. Thermal resistance ratings are 0.35°C/W (150W/200W), 0.23°C/W (250/300W), and 0.11°C/W (550/600W).

The MHP Series power resistors are available with RoHS-compliant terminations. IRC will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements.
Typical pricing for the MHP Series power resistors ranges from $3.00 to $45.00 each in quantities of 100 pieces. Lead time is from 7 to 10 weeks.
