APC Announces G5 Rack Power Filter for Custom Installations

New Power Management Solution Offers Surge Protection and Noise Filtering

DENVER - September 4, 2008 - APC, a global leader in integrated critical power and cooling services, today announced the APC AV G5 Rack Power Filter designed to protect valuable electronics, such as plasma and LCD televisions from surges, spikes and blackouts. The APC AV G5 Rack Power Filter features surge protection and noise filtration to optimize the performance of connected equipment in a pro installation.

"With the increase in power sensitive equipment in AV installations today, it is critical that installers be able to protect connected equipment and manage power within space constrained environments," says Dave Johnson, senior vice president, Home & Business Networks, APC. "The APC AV G5 Rack Power Filter offers superior surge protection, noise filtering and advanced power management for audio and video equipment, in a single rack unit form factor."

The APC AV G5 Rack Power Filter features eight surge-protected outlets on the back of the unit, six for digital devices and two for high current. All outlets aid in noise filtering through isolated noise filter banks. The unit also includes a convenience outlet on the front for installers. In addition, the APC AV G5 Rack Power Filter has an LCD, delayed turn on/off (four banks), and the ability for rack or shelf installation (ears attached, feet separate in box).

The unit has a Let-Through Voltage Rating of <40V. According to The Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), a Let-Through Voltage Rating is the best indication of surge suppression performance, where the lowest number is best and a rating of < 330V is considered satisfactory. If the APC AV G5 Rack Power Filter encounters a period of extreme over or under voltage, the unit will automatically shut off so as not to damage connected electronics.

The APC AV G5 Rack Power Filter joins APC's award-winning line of power protection solutions specifically designed for the custom home theater installation market including the APC AV S Type Power Conditioners with Battery Backup, H Type Power Conditioners, and C Type Power Filters.

Available in late 2008 for North America, the new APC AV G5 Rack Power Filter (G5BLK) has an estimated retail price of $199.99 and comes standard with APC's Lifetime Equipment Protection Policy, which covers properly connected equipment up to $500,000 (see policy for details). APC will exhibit this and its other APC AV products at CEDIA 2008 from September 3-7, 2008 in booth 953.
