Original Press Release:

Automated Laboratory Pellet Press Redesigned for XRF Sample Preparation

The redesigned X-Press Automated Laboratory Press just made pressing powdered samples for XRF analysis even easier. This newest model of a classic laboratory pellet press, built on 20 years of field experience, takes consistency, throughput, and durability to a whole new level.

After nearly two years of research and development, SPEX SamplePrep LLC has released the next generation of automated hydraulic pellet press. The redesigned 3630 X-Press® has a distinctive new anodized look while living up to the reputation for rugged reliability that has been established by its predecessor over the past 20 years.

The 3630 X-Press® is a fully automated, hydraulic laboratory pellet press ideal for repetitive pressing of sample pellets for XRF, IR and other analytical methods. It now features a programmable LCD touch-screen display with adjustable parameters that include maximum pressure, dwell time, and release time. These variables can be saved in the system's memory and easily recalled for future pellet pressing cycles with the touch of a button. Ultimately, this will allow the user to achieve greater consistency and higher sample throughput.

Keeping the goal of increased laboratory safety in mind, the newest model 3630 X-Press® also features an interlock that prevents opening of the safety shield during operation. A compact, 11 inch wide footprint makes this bench-top press easy to fit into the laboratory. During the redevelopment of this laboratory pellet press, existing customer feedback was used to identify which features needed to be incorporated and thus drive the new design. John Martin, Vice President of Research and Development for SPEX SamplePrep, explains, "Reproducibility is a cardinal virtue in sample preparation for XRF or any other analytical technique. Therefore, the updated design of the 3630 X-Press makes pellet pressing a simple, safe, and reproducible process that yields consistent results every time." SPEX SamplePrep offers a variety of tips and technical details on how to prepare powder samples for XRF at http://www.spexcsp.com/sampleprep/catalog/aid6.html.

SPEX SamplePrep LLC, a superior lab equipment manufacturer, has been meeting the needs of spectroscopists for over 50 years.
