July 7, 2005 - Utilizing SPI serial data interface, Mercury(TM) 3500Si achieves speeds of 7.2 m/sec while operating at 5 nm resolution. Encoder position values are digitized and sent directly into controller's DSP. LED indicators enable instrument-free sensor alignment, and users can complete alignment procedures in less than 30 sec. System resolution can be programmed in binary steps from x4 to x4,096 or 5 microns to 5 nm, linear and 6,600-67.1 million counts per/rev, rotary.

The new Mercury(TM) 3500Si is the first high performance position feedback encoder to operate at maximum speed and maximum resolution. Utilizing the industry-standard SPI serial data interface, the Mercury(TM) 3500Si can achieve speeds of 7.2 meters/second, while operating at 5 nanometer resolution. The system is capable of speeds up to 50 times faster than standard A-quad-B output encoders.

The SPI standard is supported by many DSP chip manufacturers including: TI, Motorola and Analog Devices. Encoder position values are digitized and sent directly into the controller's DSP. This format provides a robust connection that is ideal for encoder interfacing.

Like other Mercury(TM) encoders, the 3500Si is miniaturized. It has the smallest high-performance sensor head in the industry, just 8.4mm tall.

The Mercury 3500 also features LED indicators for instrument-free sensor alignment. Users can complete alignment procedures in under 30 seconds. Gain and phase correction are optimized automatically.

In addition to ultra high speed operation, the Mercury 3500's SmartSignal(TM) electronics and SmartSignal(TM) software provide robust programmable features. Users can program system resolution in binary steps from x4 to x4096 or 5 microns to 5 nanometers, linear and 6,600 to 67.1 million counts per revolution, rotary. Alarms for low signal alert are also programmable. SmartSignal(TM) software even displays encoder data in several ways: a Lissajous data plot of raw and corrected signals, position vs. signal strength, and position vs. velocity.

The Mercury 3500Si is ruggedized for high noise environments and delivers best-in-class noise immunity. SmartSignal electronics are housed in a metal enclosure as are sensor electronics. All cabling is double shielded.
