August 2, 2010 - Using dual-coil design to minimize thermal and radiation effects, inductive-based Non-Contact Position/Displacement Sensors operate from -320 to +1,000°F continuous and up to +1,200°F short term. Units feature sealed, all-Inconel construction and use metal-jacketed, mineral-insulated cable. Available in single- and multiple-channel models with NEMA enclosure, sensors are suitable for highly corrosive gas or liquid environments as well as radiation environments.

Kaman's Extreme Environment Sensors Precisely Measure Position/Displacement Without Contact


MIDDLETOWN, CT - Kaman Precision Products | Measuring offers a line of high-precision sensors and systems that provide accurate and precise non-contact position/displacement feedback in the most hostile of environments. These inductive-based displacement sensing systems operate from -320°F to +1,000°F continuous and up to +1200°F short term. All Inconel construction makes them suitable for highly corrosive gas or liquid environments, and radiation environments.

Kaman's extreme sensing systems use a dual-coil sensor design to minimize both thermal and radiation effects. The common mode rejection provided by the symmetrical design of the dual coils compensates for constant and slowly changing temperatures from -320°F to +77°F or from 77°F to +1000°F.

Measurement quality is unaffected by most corrosive gasses and liquids and most other environmental contaminants such as oil, dirt, radiation, and stray RF and magnetic fields.

All of Kaman's high-temperature transducers are made with sealed, all laser-welded Inconel housings and use metal-jacketed, mineral-insulated cable. The sensors use the versatile Kaman KDM-8200 family of signal conditioning electronics. Single- and multiple-channel systems are available in NEMA enclosures or bench-top/ rack-mountable Euro-format enclosures. Options are available with and without power supplies and digital displays.

These high-temperature products were initially designed to measure steam turbine shaft runout in nuclear power plants. They have also been used to measure nuclear fuel rod vibration, shaft vibration/run-out in rocket engine liquid fuel pumps, chemical processes, research projects, and high-temperature processing.
