Honeywell Analytics Adds Infrared Sensor Cartridge Options to Impact Pro® IR Multi-Gas, Portable Gas Detector

Lincolnshire, IL - Honeywell Analytics has added various infrared (IR) cartridge options to its popular multi-gas Lumidor Impact Pro IR portable gas detector.

One of three IR sensors can be chosen as one of the four sensors that come standard in a 4-sensor, multi-gas cartridge. Two IR sensors monitor for methane and other hydrocarbons (measuring 0-100% of Lower Explosive Limit or 0-100% volume of gas volume) while a third sensor option measures for percentage volume of carbon dioxide.

The cartridge also includes a sensor that measures for oxygen levels and two sensors for a range of user-selected toxic gases including carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. The additional IR sensor complements Honeywell's proven electrochemical cell and catalytic bead technology within the Impact Pro range.

Honeywell Analytics developed the infrared sensors specifically for advanced detection of flammable and toxic gases in demanding industrial settings. The IR unit is unaffected by exposure to poisoning compounds such as silicones, extreme hydrocarbon levels, nitrogen storage blankets or inert atmospheric conditions-making it ideal for situations where a pellistor may not be suitable, such as low oxygen environments.

Typical industrial applications include power generation, oil and gas exploration and drilling, chemical storage, landfill monitoring, brewing, wine production, water treatment, petrochemical processing, food processing and refrigeration, shipping and marine logistics, and environments that require confined space entry and pre-entry safety checks or make use of fire suppressants.

The Impact IR sensor is factory-calibrated and ready to go out of box. When installed, the sensor automatically updates the Impact Pro IR unit's gas settings. The Impact IR offers drift-free operation, greater sensitivity and faster response to gases, and long-term sensor performance and stability compared with catalytic bead technology. The miniature IR sensor also has the advantage of a small footprint and relatively low battery consumption. The infrared operation is based on the measurement of the absorption of infrared energy as it passes through a target gas.

The IR cartridge can be fitted with a new Impact Pro IR model. Existing Impact Pro models can be re-configured to adapt the IR sensor by Honeywell Analytics' Service Department.

The Impact Pro IR from Honeywell Analytics includes all of the feature-rich, field-proven attributes, standard or accessorized with Impact Pro models: durable casing IP67 rated to withstand water and dirt ingress; unique Safelink confined-space instrument-to-instrument communication device; un-powered Enforcer gas calibration and bump testing station; high-performance motorized pump for air sampling; simple sensor exchange; face-up LCD monitor and oversized menu buttons; advanced data logging and storage; multi-lingual text option; alkaline and rechargeable battery options and more.

"This new addition to the Lumidor range is an ideal, innovative solution for plant managers, safety inspectors and others who require reliable, continuous, long-term gas monitoring of flammable gases in an oxygen deficient or inert environment," said Mark Brandon, product manager for Honeywell Analytics' portable line of gas detectors. "The Impact IR package provides a competitive and flexible gas detection solution to meet users' safety requirements-at an attractive buy-in for infrared technology."

The Lumidor Impact Pro IR has passed UL and ATEX certification, reinforcing Honeywell Analytic's global commitment to safety, quality and reliability. Lumidor Impact IR portable gas detector and cartridges are available through distributors of gas detection/life safety equipment and are backed by Honeywell Analytics' 24 hour/7 day service cover. Existing Impact Pro units can also be fitted with IR sensor cartridges through Honeywell's Service Department.

IR Sensor Cartridge Key Features:
o 3 IR sensors available with multiple options; one IR sensor per 4-sensor multi-gas cartridge.
o Ideal for situations where a pellistor may not be suitable, such as low oxygen environments.
o Applications include power generation, oil and gas exploration and drilling, chemical storage, landfill monitoring, brewing, wine production, water treatment, petrochemical processing, food processing and refrigeration, shipping and marine logistics, and environments that require confined space entry and pre-entry safety checks or make use of fire suppressants.
o Two IR sensors monitor for methane and other hydrocarbons (measuring 0-100% of Lower Explosive Limit or 0-100% volume of gas volume) while a third sensor option measures for percentage volume of carbon dioxide.
