Original Press Release:

Mott Corporation Provides Porous Metal for Alternative Energy and Energy Storage Applications

Farmington, CT - Mott Corporation announces the availability of specialized all-metal materials for select applications in the alternative renewable energy market.   Porous metal has been successfully used in a variety of alternative energy and green energy applications and is an outstanding material for use in PEM or SOFC fuel cells, flow batteries, electrolyzers, and other alternative energy devices.  Rugged and robust, porous metal can be processed with smooth, scratch free surfaces that can be used as a membrane support, catalyst support, gaseous diffusion layer or as an electrode in cell stacks or cell assemblies.

Mott supplies components in 300 and 400 series stainless steel, titanium, niobium and many other metallurgies in form factors ranging from plates, large diameter discs, sheets (as thin as .010”), or finished seamless elements.  These materials are available in sub-micron grade media up to media grade 100 (mean pore size).  Mott can also provide a full complement of secondary operations to ensure parts are supplied in the optimum configurations that meet customer requirements.  The unique durability of porous metal can enhance the performance and extend the service life of fuel cells and flow batteries by eliminating defects or fatigue from thermal cycling, shock, vibration, or other operational issues.   Lastly, porous metal is the ultimate “Green” material that can be 100% recycled.

Mott Corporation has been providing engineered solutions through the use of porous metal technology and development since 1959.  Mott has  design/development teams that continually engineer porous metal components, sub-assemblies and finished products for applications in a wide variety of industries, including biotechnology, medical, chemical, petrochemical, instrumentation, food and beverage, semiconductor, and alternative energy.  Contact our design team and let us show you what porous metal can do for your next engineering challenge.
