Chromalox Introduces New Line of Polyimide (Kapton®) Flexible Heaters

Thin profile design offers superior heat transfer; ideal for medical, analytical, transportation, semiconductor, electronics and aerospace equipment applications

PITTSBURGH - Chromalox®, a leading manufacturer of electric heat and control products, has introduced a new line of thin, lightweight polyimide flexible heaters that offer rapid heat transfer with virtually no out gassing when energized.

Overall thickness is just .007" (0.18 mm) which allows for rapid heat transfer and supports increased watt density. The heaters are available in 24V, 28V, 115V and 240V standard configurations. Sizes range from very small up to 12" x 18" (300 mm x 450 mm). The heaters can be readily customized with temperature sensors, special wire connectors or harnesses, die-cut shapes and other options based on customers' application requirements. A variety of compatible temperature controls are available, including integrated thermistors, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors and thermostats.

Designed for lower-temperature applications (up to 200°C), the new heaters include an etched foil circuit placed between two layers of very thin (.002") polyimide substrate.

Heaters may be supplied with a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) made of either FEP Teflon polymer for applications (up to 200°C) or acrylic (121°C or less). The heaters feature a bend radius .032" (0.8 mm) minimum.

"We are pleased to introduce these new heaters to support our customers' needs in a wide range of industries," said Steve Doyle, Director of Specialty Components. "Our new polyimide heaters are suitable for many customer applications where flexibility, thin design and watt density are critical."
