SL Power Electronics Launches High-Power Power over Ethernet Plus Injector for a Wide Range of Wireless Access Point Applications

VENTURA, Calif. - Nov. 3, 2008 - SL Power Electronics today announced its highest power single-port power injector series for Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications. The Ault PENT1040 family comes in four different versions (A, B, C and D) to meet the varying compliance needs of OEMs and features 40 watts of output power - the highest level available from SL Power.

Providing power to devices through RJ45 jacks and high-speed data transfer over a single Ethernet cable, the Ault brand PENT1040 series controls costs and saves time for OEMs by eliminating the need for expensive electrical contractors, scheduling, and compliance with local code standards.

"PoE technology has become increasingly popular for Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) telephony, network security cameras, WLAN access points, and security access control systems," explained Greg Harris, vice president, Global Sales and Marketing, SL Power. "As devices within these market segments have become more feature-rich and the need for outdoor access points increases, a higher power supply is required. SL Power is committed to providing our customers with a wide range of standard models - as well as the option to modify a model or custom design to meet their individual application and unique market needs worldwide."

Both the Ault PENT1040B and PENT1040D models will comply with the new Power over Ethernet Plus IEEE802.3at detection, disconnect, overload and over-voltage control function standard. Although the standard is still pending approval, most industry experts believe it will stipulate that the injector must be capable of delivering a minimum of 30 watts per powered device (PD) and more than 30 volts. The PENT1040B and PENT1040D also are backwards compatible to the current IEEE802.3af standard.

The Ault PENT1040 family features a load diagnostic LED that advises by color and/or by blinking whether the injector is active, on or recognizes an error (IEEE802.3at compliant models), and a Power ON LED for models that do not meet IEEE802.3at specifications (PENT1040A and PENT1040C). Both the PENT1040A and PENT1040B versions support 10/100/1000 Megabits per second (MbPS) data rates, while the mid-span PENT1040C and PENT1040D models support 10/100 MbPS data rates, non-Gigabit.

All Ault PENT1040 models are desktop style with a non-vented case and feature a self-contained injector. They also have regulated output with low ripple and a 100VAC to 250VAC universal input. The Ault PENT1040 family is CE-compliant, meets EMI/RFI regulations, and features overload shutdown and short-circuit protection.

The Ault PENT1040 is available for approximately $15.60 to $18.50 in OEM quantities (pricing is model dependent).
