SiliconSystems Announces Availability of Its SiliconDrive USB 10-pin Product Family

New Product is Based on SiliconSystems' Next-Generation Storage Platform

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Aug. 23 -- SiliconSystems, Inc., a world leader in advanced storage technology, today announced the addition of a USB 10-pin module to its SiliconDrive family of products. The new family features an industry-standard form factor and is available in capacities ranging from 1- to 4-gigabytes (GB). Based on the advancements of the company's recently-announced next-generation storage technology platform, which overcomes the storage system reliability and compatibility issues associated with faster host system interfaces and shrinking process geometries, the new SiliconDrive USB 10-pin module delivers the high performance, high reliability and multi-year product lifecycle storage system required by Enterprise System OEMs.

Embedded system applications designed for use in today's most demanding environments such as blade servers, video poker machines, single board computers and interactive kiosks require the high-speed data transfer and exchange provided by a USB interface combined with a highly reliable storage solution. SiliconSystems USB 10-pin module offers a feature-rich plug-and-play storage system to meet these needs. The SiliconDrive USB 10-pin module integrates advanced storage technologies to achieve higher write speeds, enable lower power consumption and provide enhanced ruggedness and reliability.

As with all its products based on SiliconSystems' next-generation SiliconDrive technology, the new USB 10-pin module features an enhanced version of the company's patented PowerArmor technology, which offers protection from host system voltage and power anomalies to prevent data and drive corruption, and a more precise version of the company's patent-pending SiSMART technology, which accurately monitors storage system useable-life to compensate for lower endurance storage components. Giving OEMs the highest reliability and performance, the SiliconDrive USB 10-pin module also incorporates the company's industry-leading ECC, wear-leveling and storage management technologies, as well as robust storage management architecture to ensure long product life.

"By offering 10-pin compatibility in a small form factor that matches host system capacity requirements, the SiliconDrive USB 10-pin module delivers an optimal storage solution for a broad range of next-generation embedded applications," said Gary Drossel, vice president of product planning at SiliconSystems. "Along with overcoming storage system reliability and compatibility issues associated with faster host system interfaces and shrinking storage component process geometries, our USB 10-pin module is also a great example of the scalability designed into SiliconSystems' next-generation SiliconDrive platform."

SiliconSystems will offer both standard and low-profile versions of the SiliconDrive USB 10-pin module to match motherboard designs and save valuable board space. Engineering samples of the SiliconDrive USB 10-pin module are available now and volume production will commence in Q4 2007.
