New Spacepak Engineered Plastic Plenum Reduces Duct Leakage Rates By Up To 90%
WESTFIELD, Mass., Sept. 30, 2004 -- SpacePak, the originator and leading producer of high-velocity central air conditioning systems, has introduced a full line of engineered plastic plenum and main trunk-line components that reduce duct leakage rates by up to 90% when compared to traditional sheet metal or Mylar-wrapped fiberglass ducts.

The new SpacePak GR8 Duct system is wrapped in a blanket of R8 fiberglass insulation, and meets the R8 codes in states requiring R8 insulation in unconditioned spaces. In addition, because the air-stream is over polyethylene plastic, there is no potential to exhaust fiberglass from within the ductwork into the living space.
The GR8 Duct is immediately available and comes complete with fitted elbows and T-joints as well as insulated jackets with adhesive tabs. There is no cutting, taping or field fabricating required, which allows for easy and efficient installation. Additionally, the system includes a unique snap-in-place lockdown clamp that eliminates the need for male/female unions and tape, and ensures an airtight seal, leak tested to a six-inch water column.
Other features of the GR8 Duct system include a unique snap-in-place plenum take-off, which instantly provides a secure and airtight seal, and eliminates the need and related labor for installing green clips. A redesigned offset adapter eliminates the need to raise the air-handler unit.
The GR8 Duct system has passed all fire and smoke testing and meets ASTM E84 and UL 723/181 25/50.
