Photogrammetry System creates 3D CATIA models/measurements.
October 6, 2003 - CATIA version of FotoGâ„¢ allows creation of 3D CAD models and extraction of measurements from film or digital photography and video. CATIA interface to FotoG allows users to develop 3D, as-built CAD models of existing facilities for use in CATIA design environment. Providing capabilities comparable to laser scanning systems, software also offers targeting functionality that automates process of creating 3D models of real world objects.

New Software Allows Creation of 3D CATIA Models and Measurements from Digital Photography and Video
Vexcel releases CATIA version of award winning close-range photogrammetry system FotoGâ„¢
BOULDER, COLORADO - Vexcel Corporation has announced the release of the CATIA version of its award winning close-range photogrammetry system called FotoGâ„¢. Available previously in MicroStation and AutoCAD versions, FotoGâ„¢ allows the creation of 3D CAD models and the extraction of precise measurements from film or digital photography and video. To support this release, Vexcel has completed development of an interface that integrates FotoG into the CATIA engineering design application program. The addition of the CATIA interface to FotoG allows users to develop 3D 'as-built' CAD models of existing facilities for use in the CATIA design environment. CATIA is widely used by industries around the world to simulate industrial design processes. While FotoG provides capabilities comparable to laser scanning systems, it is significantly lower in cost and can be used in environments where laser scanning systems are not well-suited.
"This is a significant and mutually advantageous development for CATIA users and for Vexcel," observed Dr. Jason Szabo, Vexcel's Manager of Close Range Photogrammetry. "The CATIA release opens a new technology for CATIA users who can now extract precise measurements and create models from digital images directly within CATIA. For Vexcel, this opens a broad market in industries such as shipbuilding, automotive, and manufacturing where CATIA has been adopted as the premier engineering design application program."
Other recent FotoG advancements include automatic targeting functionality that eliminates tedious manual tasks, dramatically automating the process of creating as-built 3D models of real world objects. The result is substantial savings in time and labor for engineering and design applications of all sizes.
