    April 2009

Boulder, CO - Picosecond Pulse Labs (PSPL), a leading manufacturer of high performance instruments, introduces the Model 12040 8GHz and the Model 12050 12.5GHz high-speed pattern generators. These new products offer a unique combination of high performance, flexible use, and economical pricing. While new serial data standards are operating at ever increasing speeds, most pattern generator solutions offer either limited capabilities or are extremely expensive (e.g. 2X to 3X times the price of the 12040 or 12050). The 12040 and 12050 are specifically designed to address test requirements at these high data rates in a cost effective manner.

The performance of the 12040 and 12050 is attributed to the fact that both instruments are based on the same leading edge amplifier technology that is used in the highest performance BERT and pattern generator instruments. The 12040 and 12050 are fully programmable with adjustable frequency, amplitude, offset, and crossing point. Users may also select from pre-defined PRBS patterns or programmable user defined data (up to 512kbits). In addition, the 12040 and 12050 include a large front panel touch screen GUI and USB computer programmability. Applications for these pattern generators include telecom systems, serial data, high-speed component, and high-speed device testing.

These pattern generators are targeted for uses where high performance, adjustable use, and a cost effective solution are all important. Kipp Schoen, Picosecond's Director of Marketing states, "Serial data test requirements keep increasing in speeds while most high speed pattern generator solutions remain extremely expensive. With the new Model 12040 and 12050 pattern generators we are seeking to address a currently unserved market segment that needs a more cost effective solution."

Additional information and detailed specifications for the 12040 and 12050 instruments can be found on the pattern generator product page at www.picosecond.com.
