Multivac's Contoured Packaging; A New Catagory in Packaging

Kansas City, MO (June 2, 2003) - Multivac announces Contoured Packaging, a new brand-packaging tool that boosts product appeal with a sleek and tailored design significantly enhancing visual presentation. Contoured Packaging forms plastic into virtually any size or shape, and can utilize a variety of clear, tinted or opaque films for stunning brand impact. Contoured Packaging can break point-of-sale landscapes, rejuvenate older brands, and help launch new products. Cross product branding opportunities are also enhanced because all forming is done in line and no preformed blisters are required. The process also significantly reduces operational costs since it eliminates inventory of preformed blisters with an inline forming process.

"Contoured Packaging fits products like a tailored suit - features and styling possibilities are leaps and bounds above the standard bubble or boxy look," says Doug Slomski, director of marketing, Multivac, Inc. "This thermoformed solution is ideal for anly product manager, packaging engineer or marketing director looking for an alternative to carded blister packs because it offers more flexibility, greater durability, and it can reduce iniventory and production costs."

Using a thermoform fill & seal process (TFFS), Contoured Packaging is created and filled with products on Multivac's wide range of TFFS packaging systems that efficiently mold film to fit a product, then seal it with a top web of film or with paper board. Carded backs and product inserts (PIDS) can also be dropped in the plastic mold for certain applications. This fully automated thermoform fill and seal process is capable of creating, virtually any sized or shaped package to suit the individual needs of a product.

Easy open features can also be incorporated allowing the packaging to function as a convenient storage and dispensing case for office products, personal care needs, and hardware items.

Contoured Packaging can be used for a wide variety of applications from children's toys to hardware to cosmetics as well as a range of industrial and medical applications. Since Contoured Packaging is created inline using, molded film, sizes and shapes are virtually limitless. Also, Multivac's rapid mold changeover allows for many products to be packaged on one line with tailored shapes.

Contoured Packaging also offers more durability on store shelves over blisters. Plastic film does not become dog-eared over time or through customer handling and, unlike printed cardboard, the
plastic film backing does not fade or yellow. Multivac's Contoured Packaging also can incorporate an easy open feature that separates cleanly without tears.

Multivac's wide range of systems and rapid changeover capabilities offer retail, pharmaceutical, and consumer packagers greater flexibility and the ability to bring products to market faster. Even low-volume, high-value products can benefit from Contoured Packaging because Multivac has compact and mid-sized machines with the same sophisticated, automated thermoforming capabilities.
