December, 2002 — R.A. Jones continues a century of innovation, unveiling the industry's first true high-speed form/fill/seal machine for producing wide-bottom, self-standing pouches. Based on Jones' second-generation Pouch King platform, the new stand-up pouch machine more than doubles the output of current technology. The stand-up Pouch King offers linear web speeds up to 3500 in/min., enabling filled pouch outputs of up to 500/min depending on pouch size. The versatile machine produces pouches up to 8" wide x 10" high x 4" flat bottom. It can accommodate a variety of stand-up formats and handles both dry and retortable materials.
Sharing the standard Pouch King's quick-changeover design, the stand-up pouch machine meets market needs for both high output speeds and high packaging flexibility. The high-speed machine responds to strong industry shifts to self-standing pouches. The stand-up Pouch King gives packagers the economies and convenience of flat-bottom pouches, while removing compromises in line speeds and production efficiencies.
The stand-up Pouch King uses Jones' proven continuous motion and horizontal form/fill/seal technology for high precision and reliability in 24/7 production operations. A fully integrated servo drive system with advanced motion control reduces drive complexity to provide high reliability with high-flex programmable operation and exceptional process control.
Continuing the Pouch King's sleek, clean design, the stand-up machine features all stainless construction, open easy-clean layout, clear-view gullwing guarding, and ergonomic low-profile shape. The easy-lift Lexan guarding optimizes personnel access for faster setups and easier trouble-shooting, while providing at-a-glance check of machine operation. Low profile design gives a comfortable web threading height.
The Pouch King features an advanced control system with color monitor, "soft" PLC logic controller, and embedded laser receiver/transmitter circuit for accurate high-speed motion control. Jones offers integrated motion/control systems from either Allen Bradley or Siemens/Indramat, ensuring rapid data transfer between motion control and machine control.
