August 4, 2010 - Featuring micro-fine grain carbide substrate, RT 100 VA Drills have heat- and wear-resistant PVD coating, which remains stable in operations up to 1,470°F. Dual helical coolant ducts provide optimum coolant delivery to cutting edges, while VA point geometry creates short, manageable chips that can be evacuated from hole, eliminating need for peck cycles. Available in 3.0-20.0 MM diameters, Series 8510 drills to 3 times its diameter, while Series 8511 drills to 5 times its diameter.

The New RT 100 VA Drill Family

For the production of accurate holes in stainless steels with high cutting rates and long tool life, Guhring has developed the new RT 100 VA drill family. The RT 100 VA excels in stainless steels due to three primary factors:

o Guhring's micro-fine grain carbide substrate, which allows for sharper cutting edges and greater transverse rupture strength

o Nano-ATM heat- and wear-resistant PVD coating, which remains stable in operations with temperatures as high as 1470 degrees F.

o New VA point geometry and flute profile, designed for controlled chip formation and free-cutting action.

RT 100 VA drills have dual helical coolant ducts through the tool, providing optimum coolant delivery to the cutting edges. The specialized VA point geometry creates short, manageable chips which are easily evacuated from the hole. This eliminates the need for peck cycles, and greatly increases the drill's productivity.

Tests have shown the RT 100 VA drill to achieve extended tool life when run head-to-head with competitors' drills in stainless steels, with very low wear rates. These drills can also work well in titanium and nickel alloys due to their excellent wear resistance.

There are two series available as stocked standards for the RT 100 VA: Series 8510 drills to 3 times its diameter, and Series 8511 drills to 5 times its diameter. Both series are stocked in diameters from 3.0 to 20.0MM, with both fractional and metric sizes.
