April 28, 2004 - Fortron® PPS (polyphenylene sulfide) SKX 228C is general-use resin, while Fortron® PPS SKX 433C is stabilized to permit continuous use at higher temperatures. Grades are formulated by modifying chemistry of PPS to gain rheological characteristics needed for extrusion applications. Products limit stretching and deformation of unsupported filaments and webs before they cool and set after extrusion.

New High-Viscosity, Melt-Stable Grades of Fortron® PPS Reduce Distortion during Strand and Film Extrusion

Extrusion of Film for Lamination and Strands for Netting More Efficient

Summit, New Jersey; Kelsterbach, Germany, April 26, 2004 - Ticona, the technical polymers business of Celanese AG (NYSE: CZ; FSE: CZZ), has introduced two extra-high melt-viscosity and melt-strength grades of Fortron ® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) that can improve the integrity of strands and films during extrusion.

The new grades limit the stretching and deformation of unsupported filaments and webs before they cool and set just after extrusion. One grade, Fortron® PPS SKX 228C, is a general-use resin, while the other, Fortron® PPS SKX 433C, is stabilized to permit continuous use at higher temperatures for more demanding applications.

"In creating these grades, we modified the chemistry of PPS to gain the rheological characteristics needed for many advanced extrusion applications," says Ramesh Srinivasan, Fortron® Global Business Development Specialist. "We gave these new grades higher melt strength with less shear-thinning than our standard Fortron® PPS grades."
