Pregis Intros Microguard PP Sheet Foam Line

Deerfield, Ill., May 21, 2008-Pregis Corp. introduces its Microguard(TM) low-density polypropylene (PP) sheet foam line which features three stock sizes.

As the only U.S. manufacturer of PP sheet foam, Pregis is now making it easier than ever for low volume users to benefit from the superb cushioning properties of sheet foam by offering three readily available sizes (1/32-, 1/16-, 3/32-inches). The new stocking program allows users with varying volume requirements to have access to just-in-time product delivery.

"The new stock offerings will allow our customers to take advantage of Microguard's protective qualities without committing to minimum order quantities and long product lead times," explains Josephine Lee, director of marketing, Pregis.

Further, Microguard's high coefficient of friction (COF) provides unequalled protection for easily scratched finishes against vibration and shifting during transit. (A high COF means that Microguard(TM) PP clings to the item it is protecting. Low COF materials slide back and forth increasing the chance that abrasion will occur to sensitive product finishes.)

In addition to superb cushioning and surface protection properties, Microguard(TM) PP sheet foam offers excellent vapor transmission, thermal and insulation. Its uses also extend to void fill and interleaving-desirable for items such as china and other fragile "layered" product packs.

Microguard's high melt point (320° Fahrenheit) makes it uniquely suited to handle parts-such as injection molded components-which may reach the packaging stage at elevated temperatures. The high melt point also makes it the ideal protective choice in applications (such as furniture) that are shrinkwrapped.

Microguard(TM) PP sheet foam also has a strong sustainability position. It is manufactured with 40% less resin than the same thickness in polyethylene and is lighter weight than small air cushioning at equal square footage. In addition to source reduction, this has a positive impact on shipping costs. Microguard(TM) is also recyclable and photodegradable. Further no curing agents are used so there is no grease transfer to the part it protects.

The product line is ideal for a broad range of products in markets such as: agriculture, automotive, construction, electronics, appliances, food, fulfillment/mail order, furniture, housewares, moving/storage, pharmaceuticals, publishing and transportation.
