NKK Switches Announces Ultra Subminiature PCB Pushbutton Switch

GB2 Series ideal for mounting in tight fitting applications

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Feb. 13, 2009) - NKK Switches, the world's leading designer and manufacturer of innovative electromechanical switching devices, today announced the availability of its GB2 Series of ultra thin and ultra miniature pushbutton switches. The GB2 series addresses the demands of design engineers for low cost, reliable and effective solutions for even the most intricate of designs.

With a footprint of just 7mm high, 7mm wide and 2.5mm thick, the GB2 pushbuttons are ideally suited for high density PCB mounting and other applications where board space is at a minimum. These switches are also suitable for block or ganged mounting.

"Ultra thin switches represent a major advancement in sub-compact switch engineering," said Bob Wanless, Sr. Product Marketing Specialist, NKK Switches. "We expect to see a lot of interest in these pushbuttons from the communications, instrumentation and hand-held device industries as designs continue to shrink in physical size in response to user demand and environmental necessity."

The GB2 Series features off-center plungers that further facilitate mounting in tight spaces, and the unique plunger design also helps prevent accidental actuation. In addition, NKK's award-winning Sliding Twin Crossbar contact mechanism provides unequalled logic level switching reliability and a positive, smooth detent actuation.

These switches are momentary circuit, single pole-single throw and feature an OFF momentary ON configuration. They carry a rating of 0.4VA maximum @ 28V AC/DC maximum and their mechanical and electrical life is recommended for 50,000 operations minimum.

The GB2 Series switches are constructed of glass fiber reinforced polyamide and have a flammability rating of UL94V-0. They can be ordered in straight PC, straight PC with support bracket and right angle bracketed PC in a single or double switch mounted configuration. The PC footprint is a standard 2.54mm x 2.54mm for easy PCB layout and terminals are molded-in and epoxy sealed to lock out flux and other contaminants.

Red, black or white pushbutton caps can be specified, and a mounting bracket for block mounting is also available.

A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches offers one of the industry's most extensive selections of illuminated, process sealed, miniature, specialty, surface mount and programmable switches. NKK manufactures more than 3.5 million toggle, rocker, pushbutton, slide, rotary, DIP rotary, keypad and keylock switches, each of which can be used as the foundation of a customized design. All switches are designed and manufactured to provide the quality and dependability that has made NKK the benchmark for reliability for over half a century.

NKK continues to lead the industry in responding to the needs of the marketplace with innovation, high reliability, customization and a commitment to excellence.
