Telecom New Zealand Launches Sierra Wireless AirCardŽ 595 PC Card

Latest Sierra Wireless PC card modem supports deployment of EV-DO Revision A network, offering mobile data customers faster file uploads on the go

VANCOUVER, and AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Dec. 11 -- Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ:SWIR)(NASDAQ:-)(NASDAQ:TSX:)(NASDAQ:SW) and Telecom New Zealand today announced the launch of the AirCard(R) 595 wireless wide area PC card in New Zealand, the first device to deliver Telecom's upgraded Mobile Broadband Rev A network. The AirCard 595 is the second Sierra Wireless product offered by Telecom New Zealand (following the AirCard 580 EV-DO Release 0 PC card) and this is the first launch of the card outside the United States.

Telecom New Zealand is launching the first part of the Mobile Broadband Rev A upgrade in Auckland on December 12, and will upgrade all Mobile Broadband coverage throughout New Zealand to Revision A by December 2007.

"The combination of the AirCard 595 and EV-DO Revision A represents a significant improvement for mobile data customers, particularly for those who generate or remotely access large files like presentations, video and photos that need to be shared from the field," said Jin Pak, Vice President of Sales, Asia Pacific for Sierra Wireless. "Telecom New Zealand is leading the industry in upgrading to Mobile Broadband Rev A ahead of many of its CDMA network peers, and we are pleased to collaborate with them in being among the first in the world to offer its benefits to customers."

The AirCard 595 is a Type II PCMCIA card that offers average download speeds of 800 kbps and average upload speeds of 300 kbps, operating over Mobile Broadband Rev A. The AirCard 595 will also seamlessly connect to Mobile Broadband Rev 0 and Telecom's nationwide mobile data network when outside Rev A coverage. The fixed, robust antenna is designed for superior performance, delivering better coverage in fringe areas and improved notebook battery life.
