PC/104-Plus 8-channel Serial Communications Module Improves Performance in PCI-based Systems

Emerald MM-8Plus Uses PCI bus interface to drive performance to 1.832Mbps

April 2, 2007. San Jose, CA. Diamond Systems Corporation, a leading supplier of PC/104 I/O modules and highly integrated single board computers (SBCs) that include on-board data acquisition today announced Emerald MM-8Plus, a high performance 8-channel multi-protocol serial communications PC/104-Plus module that depends solely on the PCI bus for its processor interface. The module offers significantly improved performance over traditional PC/104 (ISA bus only) solutions.

"Our new Emerald MM-8Plus 8-channel multi-protocol serial communications module adds new high performance capability to our industry-leading lineup of PC/104 serial communications boards", said Jonathan Miller, President of Diamond Systems. "Use of the PCI bus significantly improves bandwidth as well as simplifying configuration and setup."

The Emerald MM-8Plus offers eight serial ports with RS232/422/485 capability with speeds up to 1.832Mbps when using the RS422 or RS485 protocols. The board also offers 8 digital I/O lines. Protocol selection is via jumper selection. Address and interrupt selection is via the PCI bus plug and play functionality. The board operates over an extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

The Emerald MM-8Plus is the latest in a family of six PC/104 and PC/104-Plus Serial Communications boards, supporting from two to eight ports. Some models include up to 48 digital I/O lines while another model offers optical isolation on the serial ports.

Price and Availability

The Emerald MM 8Plus will be available in 30 days and is priced at $250.
