PC/104 High-Speed Multi-Port Serial Communication Boards with Extended Temperature

San Diego, Calif.—June 17, 2003—ACCES I/O Products announces the latest addition to its line of PC/104 boards, the 104-COM-8S and 104-COM-4S. These eight and four-port, asynchronous, serial communication boards support RS-485 and RS-422 communications. They are ideal for POS, gaming systems, machine monitoring, military, high-density networking applications and more. The board may be installed in any standard PC/104 stack. Ports are accessed via a 50-pin IDC type right angle connector. The convenient Auto-RTS feature makes half-duplex RS-485 communications effortless in Windows-based applications.

For the most economical version, type 16550 UARTS are used. Optional type 16850 UARTS with 128 bytes of transmit and receive FIFO may be specified for reducing processor overhead. The board was designed to protect against lost data in multi-tasking systems while maintaining 100% compatibility with Windows COM port drivers. A crystal oscillator located on the board permits precise baud rate capability up to 921.6K.

This board may be operated in two modes. In the Default Mode, the base address for the board is selected by jumpers and all of the channel addresses are sequential. Alternately, the addresses and interrupts of the individual channels may be stored in non-volatile memory on the board and loaded into programmed logic when the board is initially powered. Individual interrupts for each channel are programmed into the non-volatile memory in both modes.

Other features of the Model 104-COM-8S (4S) include:

• Operating Temperature Range: -40 to +85C (Storage Temperature Range: -50 to +120C)

• Humidity: 5% to 95% RH, non-condensing

• Low Power Required: +5VDC at 80mA typical, (0.4W)

• Field selectable RS-422 or RS-485

• Interrupt Sharing

A free software package includes sample programs and source code in “C” and Pascal for DOS, and Windows. Also included is a graphical option selection setup program in Windows. An easy-to-use Windows terminal program simplifies verification of proper operation. Linux support includes basic samples for register-level programming in “C.” Full 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP support and samples are provided for register-level access to the board’s features, as well as kernel mode IRQ operations.
