Handheld Optical Variable Attenuator

Toronto, Canada - GAO Fiber Optics (www.GAOFiberOptics.com) has released its handheld optical variable attenuator which is commonly used in such optical applications as telecom and CATV maintenance, comprehensive cable construction systems, and optical instruments research and development. Featuring a rugged, easy- to- use design, this attenuator is widely used in fiber link certification, routine maintenance and in lab environments. It is also useful in digital system communication devices including PHD and SDH as well as in analog modulation CATV systems. It belongs to GAO's Variable Optical Attenuator family of products.

This handheld optical variable attenuator, model 5501, integrates the functionality of both an attenuator and an optical power meter into one unit. It provides a wide measurement range from 2.5 to 65 dB and an attenuating wavelength range from 1260 to 1650 nm at an accuracy of ± 0.8 dB. Calibrated wavelengths include 1310, 1490, 1550 and 1625 nm. This lightweight attenuator is equipped with a LCD screen which enables it to display wavelength, input and output power, current attenuation and selected step size and absolute and relative attenuation value simultaneously.
