September 23, 2009 - Enabling characterization of amplitude- or phase-modulated signals, PSO-200 Optical Modulation Analyzer provides bandwidth suitable to allow constellation and eye-diagram analysis of signals with baud rates up to 100 Gbaud. Signals can be analyzed at up to 400 Gbit/sec when using 4-symbol modulation format such as DP-QPSK. Detailed amplitude and phase patterns can be obtained to offer pulse-shape analysis for transmitter optimization/troubleshooting.

EXFO Launches the First Turnkey Optical Modulation Analyzer for Complete Characterization of Signals up to 100 Gbaud

The latest addition to EXFO's end-to-end 100G portfolio allows comprehensive constellation analysis and complete recovery of waveforms and pulse shapes with no bandwidth limitations

QUEBEC CITY, Sept. 17 / / - EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ:EXFO)(NASDAQ:TSX:)(NASDAQ:EXF) announced today the release of the PSO-200 Optical Modulation Analyzer that enables complete characterization of amplitude- or phase-modulated signals at speed up to 100 Gbaud, specifically designed for R D labs and manufacturing environments.

Thanks to its flexible design, the PSO-200 is a future-proof tool that enables the characterization of any optical signal with minimal distortion. Its effective bandwidth is broad enough to allow constellation and eye-diagram analysis of signals with baud rates up to 100 Gbaud, which means that signals could be analyzed at up to 400 Gbit/s when using a four-symbol modulation format such as DP-QPSK. Detailed and accurate amplitude and phase patterns can also be obtained to offer powerful pulse-shape analysis for transmitter optimization and troubleshooting.

Very high-speed transmission over networks is enabled through efficient modulation of signals, whether it is phase, amplitude or both. To design 100G systems based on such advanced modulation schemes and to make sure they are ready for deployment, network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) have so far worked with in-house test solutions, which are often complex or limited. The introduction of the PSO-200 Optical Modulation Analyzer changes the picture as engineers working in R D labs and manufacturing environments now have access to a turnkey and comprehensive test instrument that makes bandwidth limitation irrelevant.

"Network equipment manufacturers and network service providers are all looking at innovative ways to address the new and evolving challenges of very-high-speed, next-generation networks," said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's Vice-President of Product Development and Marketing. "With the introduction of the PSO-200, EXFO once again offers an innovative test solution to its customers, further expanding on its already extensive end-to-end 100G portfolio, and making it possible to test high-speed systems based on advanced data modulation schemes-from early system development to field deployment."

The PSO-200 will be showcased at ECOC 2009, booth 711, from September 21 to 23, in Vienna, Austria.
