Optical Fiber Cleaver uses tension-and-scribe technology.

Press Release Summary:

Designed for 80-200 micron fiber diameters, Model PFC-400 produces flat, clean, low end-angle cleaves on single-mode, multi-mode, polarization-maintaining, and other specialty fibers. Shared transfer clip with CAS-4000 Series splicers allows user to move optical fiber from PFC-400 to CAS splicer without compromising fiber positioning. Measuring 3.0 x 6.0 x 5.9 in., portable battery-operated unit is suited for fiber laser, aerospace/defense, telecom, medical, sensing, and research applications.

Vytran Introduces Portable Optical Fiber Cleaver

Morganville, New Jersey, - Vytran, an innovative supplier of optical fiber splicing and processing solutions, introduces the "PFC-400," a compact, portable optical fiber cleaver that produces high-quality cleaves on standard and specialty fibers. PFC-400 is intended for use in fiber laser, aerospace and defense, telecom, medical, sensing and research applications.

"Vytran's PFC-400 is a cost-effective, high-performance, portable optical fiber cleaver and the ideal companion cleaver to our new CAS-4000 Series optical fiber splicers," said Jean-Michel Pelaprat, Vytran president and CEO. "The PFC-400 includes a shared transfer clip with CAS splicers for full mechanical compatibility. And its precision cleaving provides a key building block for the high-quality splices typical of CAS and other Vytran splicing systems."

PFC-400 uses "tension-and-scribe" cleaving technology to produce flat, clean, low end-angle cleaves-a prerequisite for high-strength, low-loss splices. While the PFC-400 can be used with virtually any splicer, its shared transfer clip with Vytran's CAS-4000 Series splicers allows the user to easily move an optical fiber from the PFC-400 to a CAS splicer without compromising fiber positioning.

PFC-400 can be used to cleave single-mode, multi-mode, polarization-maintaining and other specialty fibers. Fiber diameter range is 80 to 200 microns. Ideal for integration where space it at a premium, the PFC-400 measures 75 x 153 x 150 mm (3.0 x 6.0 x 5.9 inches), weighs a mere 1.1 kg (2.4 lbs) and is battery operated.

Vytran will demonstrate the PFC-400, along with its companion CAS-4100 optical fiber splicer and a selection of other products, at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO) 2012 exposition (booth #1426) from May 8-10, 2012, at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California. For added convenience, attendees can schedule appointments to discuss their unique fiber processing needs by contacting Jim Stathis, Vytran sales manager, at jstathis@vytran.com or by emailing sales@vytran.com.
