Optical Fiber Cables deliver tactical durability.

Press Release Summary:

At 0.8 mm dia, Micro-Links (µlinx™) cables deliver tactical durability for use in manned/unmanned vehicles. Aircraft-specific µlinx Avionics cables weigh 0.7 g/m and feature braided aramid yarn and -65 to 150°C performance range. ETFE cable jacket resists abrasion and chemicals. With Hytrel® jacket over underlying aramid yarn, µlinx Tether cables suit ground vehicles. Both designs are available with bend-resistant single-mode, 50 µm multimode, or 62.5 µm multimode graded index optical fiber.

OFS Announces the Launch of µlinx(TM) Optical Fiber Cables

Avon, CT – OFS introduces Micro-Links (µlinx™) optical fiber cables designed for applications requiring a small form factor cable that features excellent bend performance, abrasion resistance, and high strength.  µlinx optical fiber cables are low in weight and offer tactical durability that make them well suited for manned and unmanned vehicles which can range in size from a few inches to the size of conventional air and ground craft.  “These remarkably small cables have  a diameter of only 0.8mm, the typical thickness of a credit card”, says Cathy Ciardiello, OFS SPD Market Manager, Government, Aerospace, Defense, “yet are high in strength due to the incorporation of aramid strength members.  They are well suited for use in sensing systems, as communications links and as device pigtails on manned and unmanned crafts.”  Two constructions are offered: µlinx Avionics Optical Fiber Cables for use in both manned and unmanned aircraft and µlinx Tether Optical Fiber Cables for use with unmanned ground vehicles.

µlinx Avionics Optical Fiber Cables, weighing in at only 0.7 grams/meter are constructed with braided aramid yarn and high temperature materials for a performance range of -65 to 150°C.  The ETFE cable jacket is abrasion and chemical resistant.  These cables have also passed the FAR 25.896, 60 degree flame test and a host of additional avionics cable requirements.  µlinx Tether Optical Fiber Cables are designed to perform over rough terrain.  Their construction, Hytrel® jacket over underlying aramid yarn, offers high durability in the field.  Both designs are available with bend resistant single-mode, 50 µm multimode, or 62.5 µm multimode graded index optical fiber.
