September 30, 2003 - Suited for optical and industrial applications, Meller Optical Balls are offered in 8 tolerances from .000003–.0002 in. per ball for A.F.B.M.A. grade 3–200. Available materials range from chemical-resistant sapphire to glass. They can also be supplied in rutile, spinel quartz, YAG, ruby, cubic zirconia, and ceramic. Anti-reflective coating is available, and applications include fiber-optic lenses, bearings in instruments, and valve components.

Optical Balls Highly Spherical In Choice Of Materials

A full line of precision optical balls offered in a wide selection of materials for a variety of optical and industrial applications is available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Optical Balls feature tolerances of .000003", .000005", .000010", .000015", .000025", .00005", .0001" and .0002" per ball (A.F.B.M.A. grade 3 to 200). Suitable for a wide variety of applications, these highly spherical balls are offered in materials ranging from sapphire which is hard and chemical-resistant to glass where low-cost is important.

Permitting designers to match the material to their optical or industrial application, Meller Optical Balls can be supplied in sapphire, rutile, spinel quartz, YAG, ruby, cubic zirconia, glass, and ceramic; with anti-reflective coatings available. Applications include fiber-optic lenses, bearings in instruments, and valve components.
