New OCS300 From Horner APG Offers Color-Touchscreen Capability And Expanded I/O Using Affordable, Plastic Fiber Optic Cables

Indianapolis, IN (January 11, 2002) - Horner Advanced Products Group (APG) announces the latest version of its Operator Control Station (OCS) line, which combines a logic controller, operator interface, network, and I/O in one integrated package. The
new OCS300 series features Color-Touchscreen capability and an innovative local I/O expansion system that allows up to 20 SmartStack I/O modules to be mounted remotely from the display. The OCS300 also continues the Horner OCS tradition of affordable
OEM solutions by employing inexpensive plastic fiber optic cables, which extend the high-speed I/O bus of the OCS.

Using the same technology employed by residential audio systems like CD and DVD players, the OCS300's plastic fiber optic cables not only keep the cost of the unit down, but also make it easier for the OEM or end user to obtain additional cables, as they can be found in most consumer hardware and electronics stores. All SmartStack modules can be safely mounted 10 meters from the OCS300 display using the expansion system and dual plastic fiber optic cables. At capacity, the OCS300 can support over 1,000 I/O.

In addition to its new Color-Touchscreen and I/O features, the OCS300 includes a dual-processor, one for logic and one for screen update, which provides high-speed performance for both control and operator interface functionality. The operator interface is a VGA 320x240 color LCD display with a six-inch resistive touchscreen displaying one dedicated and five configurable function buttons. A ten-inch display will be
available in April.

Finally, while most PLC/operator interface combinations require a minimum of two software packages with duplicate I/O databases for the same points, the OCS300 requires only one. The OCS is programmed using Windows®-based Cscape(TM) software-a
combination of ladder logic programming and a graphical operator interface development system. The unit also offers OEMs the benefit of pre-configured machine design cycles, effectively reducing integration time.
